Frm. J&J Global Head of R&D and EVP, Chief Ext. Innovation and Medical Officer
Bill Hait has covered a vast range of innovation in oncology like few others. At Pharma giant Johnson & Johnson, he served as the Global Head of R&D and EVP, Chief External Innovation and Medical Officer, and in various other leadership roles, for over 17 years, building a global pipeline of innovations for J&J. Along the way, he also managed to author more than 150 scientific publications and serve as President of the American Association for Cancer Research, to which he was named Chief Scientific Advisor in 2025. This happened after Bill had co-founded and built the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey into the state’s first National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, after earlier academic and leadership roles at the Yale University School of Medicine where he was Chief of Medical Oncology and Associate Director for Clinical Science at the Yale Cancer Center. He is currently a member of the Rutgers Cancer Institute Director's Advisory Board, and the New York Stem Cell Foundation Advisory Board, and before served on the Board of Advisors for the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center and the National Cancer Institute.
But long before running global organizations, Bill was also quite literally running a lot —playing guard for the University of Pennsylvania basketball team and singles on Penn’s tennis team. Those are still his (other) dream jobs.
